    Vote yes

In Australia we are currently voting either 'yes' or 'no' to allow same sex couples to marry. I found this picture hanging on the wall next to a front door. The lane was very narrow and stopped at the front door. I thought this was a picture worth taken. Some people may not like what it suggests.

Most people of my generation still think of marriage as a religious union between a man and a woman. Frankly I don't care whether homosexual people live together and have the same property rights as heterosexual couples. They are a small minority of the population and are entitled to their views; I just wish they wouldn't try to impose their views on me and suggest their way of life is the norm.

Pictures like this suggesting our Lord Jesus was homosexual I find blasphemous.

Many on this forum and in in the world in general will disagree with my views but I too have the right to express them. If you don't like my point of view that's fine, just don't complain that I don't like your point of view.

It took awhile to see what you were referring to, I thought it was just the referendum. Our purpose here is just to offer opinion on your imagery, we often find ourselves defending ourselves I suppose because what we upload is attributed to our own beliefs; but I think its possible to showcase a style or subject without having any particular association with a cause.

Your image as displayed needed the added caption and explanation to draw the viewer more deeply within the composition, as shown (partially in shadow) I might have glanced quickly and either gave a short comment or none at all. I find the graphic under the street sign a bit more interesting, is it a wolf or is it just a symbol? The hanging shadow above also adds a bit of evil symbolism, perhaps these along with the Jesus symbol hold more meaning to the original artist than we are completely aware of. By the way, the same sex referendum, does it have a number or specific name, just curious if it is related to the number within the composition?

I do not express a view at all.

John, I took the photo because it was unique to my mind. Had the picture been ugly, dirty, funny, silly and so forth I may also have taken it. It is a unique photo and I saw it and I took it. That is all there is to it.

The number 404 is simply the house number.

    Ole,

Thanks for commenting, I wonder if you had used flash you could have eliminated the cast shadow, although looking at the composition again the angle of the shadow does add an additional dynamic. Also, added flash might have eliminated the hanging shadow above the post box.

John, I take your point regarding using flash. I actually had to 'doctor' the shadow PP because the original photo was very much heavy highlight and heavy shadow and I did not have my ND filter on me. I just had to take this picture.

Thought provoking. 404 is an address but it is also the universal error message.

Hi Ole, definitely an interesting and probably controversial photo (my generation is a tad different I suppose than Richards ).
Well taken, and thanks for posting.

Regardless of one's political and religious views it is an interesting photograph. The diagonal shadow is what does it.

    Re: Vote yes

I like the diagonal shadow and think that it makes the image.

However, I do think that you cannot divorce the subject content from the photo. IMO, it is probably the subject matter of the poster that generates the interest. I wonder if the image would be as interesting (or if if would have been shot at all) if the illustration was an ad for Coke or some variety of coffee product.

It is not even referendum. It is a postal survey run by the Australian Bureau of Statistics and the result is not binding on politicians -- nor is it compulsory to return the voting form. The whole issue has been highly politicised, to the point where it is about much more than allowing same-sex marriage. The poster in the image is just one example of many attacks on the church.

I don't connect it with sex at all; i think the person is just another lamb, who is too long to curl around Lord's neck; and i see a disinterested Lord who dispassionately uttering into his ears Heaven's message!!!
