    DOF with Fisheye lens

A fisheye lens will give you tremendous DOF but, just how much.

I did this table for my Vivitar (sold under various labels) 8mm Fisheye for crop sensor cameras and printed it using a small font...

    DOF with Fisheye lens

I pasted it to the front of my lens cap. Now instead of guestimating the DOF, I have the chart to reference. Hardly necessary when you can have a DOF of a half foot to infinity but, I like having it.

BTW: I found the infinity symbol ( ∞ ) by pressing the ALT key (on a Windows keyboard) and typing in 236.

This might also work for a manual focus lens that doesn't have a DOF From Here to Eternity

    Richard,

Thanks for the chart, I don't own a fisheye but if I did I'd use it sparingly and perhaps wouldn't consider the DOF achievable more likely the atmospheric effect especially on a composition where the subject is about 10ft-infininty from my frame of reference. Yes the effects can be exploited more the closer you are to your subject but of the images I've seen which used a fisheye, the best compositions were those which included landscapes, aerial perspectives, and some images which include rapid movement. Looking forward to seeing some of your stuff using the fisheye.
