    Nikki

This is a fast little pup. I have been trying to get action shots of her. Hints would be appreciated.

    Re: Nikki

I take a lot of photos with my dogs. These are my practice sessions and I love experimenting on them. I normally visit a park where there are other dogs. I normally sit in 1 spot (to get good eye level photos of them) and click away. I have realized that if you chase dogs you will not get the best of angles, and more often than not you will get their behinds.

You have to decide what you want to shoot, running, stationery, playing, front on etc. and then figure out the best way to get those photos.

You also need to decide whether you are looking for tack sharp images or images with motion blur (like the one you have). For the former look at shutter speeds of at least 1/1000 if you have a very active dog. For motion blur, it depends on various factors but shutters of 1/100 and less may work.

    Hope this helps

I like the energy in this image. However, Id like the dog's face a bit sharper. Either a slightly faster shutter speed or a different pan speed might do the trick.

Panning with a slower shutter speed is often a hit or miss proposition. I tend to shoot a lot of shots expecting that most of them will be trashed...

This really is a wonderful image and action shot. Maybe as Richard suggests, a slightly faster shutter speed to get the face in focus.

This is my first experience with a little dog and she is a terror. Our previous breeds (Doberman Pinscher & Bouvier) have been pretty mellow as pups. This little one has a lot of energy. She goes for her hunting training next week.
