    Dia de Muertos

Dia de Muertos - The Day of The dead (often back translated to El Dia De Los Muertos) is a Mexican multi-day holiday in which the dead are remembered...

It is also a fun holiday with face painting and with various representations of skeletons made of plaster, paper mache and candy.

I spent a short time at San Diego's Old Town and brought back these images...

Other cultures with an Hispanic heritage also have Day of the Dead celebrations. I have attended a celebration of this type at a Manila, Republic of the Philippines, graveyard. But I don't remember face painting and skeleton mannequins. I think that this portion of the celebration is mainly centered among Mexicans. It may also be that the celebration evolved into something different here in the USA...

I also shot a large number of photos of Mexican dancing using slow shutter speeds. It will take a while to select these and to process them....

Nice captures although it looks like you caught them on a good day.

Thanks for posting these wonderful images, Richard.

Getting down into Central America during the Day of the Dead festivities, as well as during Holy Week have long been on my "to do" list. One of these days timing I hope to do it, rather than just thinking about it.

    Thanks for the comment Manfred...

My photo group has been invited to a Dia de Muertos ceremony at a graveyard in Tijuana - I may go.

How about this dance image at 1/8 second?
