I find that the "frame", i.e. the staircase and floor totally overwhelm your subjects. Is this a shot about the people or about the staircase?

I like the "staircase framing" in your image very much, Mike. If you view your image at its full, posted size, cropping the image-right hand rail horizontally where its varnish color changes from a darker to lighter shade, and cropping the top of the image horizontally above the shadow of the couple by about the same amount as I suggest you crop the bottom of the image, you will have a very nice "letterbox/landscape" format photo effectively framed by the staircase which does not "overwhelm" the image of your subjects.
