    Abandoned farm, first snow

For three years now we had an early snow that has stayed. This one quite cheesed me off as it caught me with improper winter gear and 250 km from home. I even checked the weather forecast before leaving to go to my daughter's house and it was for frosty but no snow, only a few clouds. (Perfect really for shooting the stuff I do as stubble, dry grass and bare trees suit the old buildings. And access is great with no crop on the fields and frozen ground).
However it is common on the prairie to have these massive shifts when Arctic air and warm Pacific air fight it out. if you happen to be on the margin, as I was, things can change overnight. In this instance pacific air was supposed to stay on the west side of the Rocky mountains about 400 km away. Decided to get a little rambunctious and voila, a blizzard with 20 cm of snow.

Went out anyway. Make the best of a bad situation.

Posted two variants One for me as I like the minimal effect with monochrome when there is snow, and one because my wife prefers colour (I am not going to argue with someone who is more of an artist than I can ever hope to be and has been invaluable in my progression; in many ways) .

Both work well but I think there is sufficient subtle colour in the second one to make it my preference.

I agree with Geoff as well. The B&W doesn't show much detail on the surfaces of the buildings.

The light tinges of colour do lift the second shot.

Trevor, nice image! To my mind, the B&W is preferable... But adding a little clarity, contrast and sharpening (to both?) may perhaps allow the B&B to have more impact

Thanks for the version Always appreciated to see another version of the image as is grist for the mill. I initially tried more sharpening initially, had to back it off as the halos (?) around the trees were off putting to my eye Matter of personal taste probably

Nicely composed and executed, Trevor. I also like the color version as it reveals more detail and overall a better feel IMO. Well done.

A wise choice. I am reporting the result of the straw poll, it is going as predicted.
