Firefox Quantum (v 57) / Flickr link Incompatibiltity

I just installed the latest version of Firefox a.k.a. Quantum (v 57) and found that all of the links to images anyone has posted to Flickr are showing up as links rather than images in the postings. I downgraded back to Firefox 56 and the problem goes away.

    1. Has anyone else noticed this issue, or is this something unique to my configuration? The TinyPic links seem to work. I have not tested other third party image links.

    2. Any ideas as to what has changed between the two versions?

I don't know what's happening, but I've held off installing v57 now that I've read this.

further to my earlier response I have updated a Laptop (Win10 Home) to Firefox Quantum. However having looked at one of my threads with an image that I believe to be hosted on Flickr I do see the image on the forum.

I'm going to try that as well; i.e. try on my laptop.

I went back and reinstalled Quantum and checked some other links; Smugmug also seems to display okay, just not Flickr, so far as I can tell. I checked one of Donald's posts (also using Flickr) and got exactly the same result as with my Flickr posts.

    Hi,

I got the update notification just after reading about this, so I set up a series of tabs with CiC threads containing images from different sources; TinyPic, Flickr (Donald, Ziggy), Zenfolio, SmugMug, plus a couple of others.

So I shut down and restarted FireFox, as expected, it upgraded and I now have Quantum 57.0 (I was on 56.0.2).

All the threads show images correctly and LyteBox works.

In case I was just seeing cached images, I did Ctrl+F5 refreshes on the threads and even looked at images on Flickr I had ever viewed before (e.g. Donald's Loch Leven in the November Monthly Competition) - all are displaying OK for me.

For the record I'm running Win 10 Pro on a desktop PC.

So possibly there was a problem that has now been quietly fixed, or may be you still have a problem?

    Cheers,
    Dave

    Thanks Dave.

I just updated my laptop with Firefox 57 and it shows the same behaviour as my desktop. The laptop runs Windows 8.1 Home and the desktop runs Windows 10 Home.

So far this issue seems to unique to me...

Problems solved - it seems that one of the privacy blockers (DuckDuckGo Plus from the DuckDuckGo search engine) was blocking one of the trackers associated with Flickr on CiC. When I whitelisted CiC, the problem disappeared.

Why this suddenly makes a difference in Firefox 57 versus 56 (with identical settings), is something I have not been able to figure out yet.

The computer I am on just updated Firefox, and as far as I can tell, it is fine, although I don't know how to tell which sites people have linked from.

This computer is running windows 7, and the standard version of duckduckgo is installed as the default search engine.

    Being a moderator helps here.

    We can see the links.

Dunno how to break this to you Manfred

    Everyone* can!
Even if they are just visiting CiC as a guest

Just hover the mouse over an image and look in bottom left or right corner of browser window, the url of image is displayed

Well it works on all computer web browsers I know of - on both images and hyper-links - on all web sites.

    * Only difficulty might be for tablet users without a means to 'hover' a cursor over an image.

The first part of the url tells you the domain, look for consecutive letters spelling "flickr" in amongst everything else before the (typically) ".com" bit
