Sharon, very nice. I like #'s 2 and 4 the best. The last time I visited St. Petersburg I had lunch at a McDonald's. It seemed strange.

Number one is a superb capture with depth, detail and a sense of place.

Thank you, I am appreciating the B&Ws I have from these trips.

Thank you PD. I couldn't even imagine eating at McDonalds when in Europe, but to them I guess it's different

Nice series, the shadow in #3 is a bit strong and competes too much with the vibrant colors. Nice eye on the other three.

I am truly envious of your previous travels!

For me the first was a bit of a love/hate thing. I loved the photo's capture of the winding streets and character buildings but the engineer in me wanted desperately to have the verticals vertical
So if you will pardon me, this is what soothed my stress levels and let me focus on your otherwise great image:

I was watching an episode of a UK real estate program called Location, Location, Location. In the series a couple of realtors go out to find homes for demanding clients. In this case one of the clients could not live in a home where the walls were in any way out of plumb. Ironically he was looking at heritage homes, which in the UK are VERY old and VERY unlikely to be perfectly straight!

I came to realize I have that same fixation.

At the time it was because Soviet rule had been gone for about a year. I need to get back there. St. Petersburg is a beautiful city.

Having lived in Texas for a good few years, I went home (Lincoln, England) to visit kids, to discover that a McDonald's had appeared in the downtown area.

But I knew I was in England - because they charged a penny for every extra packet of tomato ketchup served . . .

That's very interesting. Slovenia is part of the former Yugoslavia, so I suspect the same thing. Such a beautiful vibrant country. But that language... ugh. I've never been to St. Pete, but would love to some day.

LOL. Great story. We probably have similar programs here, like "buying Alaska", etc. Couples looking to live in the wild frontier. Often amusing, to see the reactions and responses of "this is a little too Alaska". I tend to be a bit anal too. For some reason the horizontal guide on my camera is either off, or I am. ;-)

The first McDonald in the former Sovjet Union, Moscow, was in 1990. The first in former Yugoslavia, Belgrado, in 1988. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_McDonald%27s
I don't understand why anybody would eat there, anywhere in the world.
