Very interesting your point of view. The composition is supposed to have a meaning or a message as you said yourself. So, what I did is good under that point of view, at least.
Here we will have the commemorations of the anniversary of Setubal as city.
However the celebration day will be at Bocage day, a local poet well known around here, in Portugal.
Our group of photographers is suppose do illustrate a poem by this man.
I will not translate it to you as it would loose all it's meaning and sense.
The image is supposed to illustrate the poem.

But I am not happy with this composition. Today, during the afternoon I have been working on another one but it is not good. I have not erased it so far, but I will tomorrow morning.
And also tomorrow I will try an automatic translation of the poem.

    Antonio
your goal is as beautyfull as bold, since the poem is really 'deep', let me say 'introspective'...
I mean: it's no easy to translate this kind of poem in images,
for sure a poem talking about a more material matter, as spring, or beauty... would be easier.
I do like the poem, at least for what I can percieve from the translation, I will try to find the Portuguese version and translate it with the help of some of my collegues (I have a collegue from Spain and 2 from Brazil in my dept..)
but so, you will have to let me see your definitive composition for this theme! will you?

    I've to correct myself...
I do not need the help of my latin collegues...
the poem is much more clear now!
about 9 words every 10 are very similar to italian
is actually more easy for me to translate from portuguese!!!

It's curious Nicola. I mean the fact that it is easier for you to read the original in Portuguese. Because for me is rather difficult to read it and understand completely.
His Portuguese is archaic or at least very old. The poet was born in 1765. He uses in this poem many words which are completely out of use these days.
His language is surely nearer the origines (Latin) than to Portuguese these days. And so is Italian I think.

    Hi Antonio

You have some very strong images in this composition. Please persist with it because I think the religious images are worth pursuing. I look forward to seeing how it develops.

    Thank you for commenting Raylee
I have made a very small modification yesterday: I just added a seagull and reframed the image to 30/40.
Perhaps I have to start all over with the same or similar photos
And I need to fine tune the left bottom. I don't like the way the cross column ends
And I wonder if the sea shouldn't be rotated counter clockwise just a tad

    Antonio,
this is a nice composition too,
but at the moment (a quick view at office) I 'm not able to say if it is an improvement (in my humble opinion)
the cross and the wake leads my eyes from bottom to up right, out of the frame, excluding the seagull that instead is in prominent foreground... perhaps this items are fighting one against the others
but I have to view again and again your picture

Good work Yvonne. The placement of the leaf over the eye and the positioning of the bird in relation to the facial features is spot on.

Antonio, I have been watching the seagull and cross with interest. You will hate me for this, but I am just not getting the same vibe I was getting from your previous projects. I get where you are coming from with the theme but the combination of elements just does not seem to gel. Don't get me wrong, technically this is one of your best yet but my mind keeps separating out the 3 main elements and that prevents the 'vision' materialising. I am not sure what could be done given the nature of these strong structural elements. They have very strong individual identities. As Katy pointed out with my 'Enlightenment' image I have the same sort of problem. There, one single component - the eye - was breaking the consistency of the image up and the story was lost.

Steve, I will not hate you because I agree.

I don't really like the composition it myself and this is the reason why I have stopped it.

Thank you for dropping these lines Steve. Your comments are most welcome.

The texture works beautifully with this one. It really complements the subject. Great stuff!
