Thanks Steve Here's another one for consideration.

I was reading about the use of lines in photographs - curves lead the eye, horizontal lines give stability, vertical lines indicate strength. It said diagonal lines are dynamic and unstable. This photo makes me feel dizzy and gives me a sense of movement. Do you get that impression too? I've used subdued colours in the texture - does this create a contrast with the diagonal lines? Does it balance the sense of instability? Or are the 2 elements too different and just don't fit together?

I don't know what your picture is but I am not very worried about it.
The composition looks pretty dynamic and pleases me. And yes it gives a sense a movement.
I think the two elements whichever they are fit together.
I am not sure if I would place the central round area in that precise position but this is also an option.

I think maybe it is the sort of thing you have to do all the time, I'm as interested in abstract art as the Tate gallery, it has a place to show difference.

I like this and maybe even prefer Wormuth this way as a pic about A2 size to stick on te wall, in preference to reality. But I'm not doing anymore of this for a bit.

I'm still struggling to get a pic as Wide as FOV of your sight, and interesting. I will concentrate on that first.

O really don't know if I would desaturate the green of the sea...
What pleases me most here is precisely all the area from the rocks till the top with all that mist.

I even like the little round spot at left and the "imperfection" of the borders.

I find this image intriguing. I like it. I can get lost in it. The colours are confronting so I see them first but then I look deeper and see others things. I'm like you - I don't need to know what an image is of to be able to enjoy it.

This one I find unnerving. It immediately brings religious connotations to mind (must be my Catholic school education). I wonder what is behind those eyes? The only thing that I'd change though is the dark circle to the lower right edge - I'd remove it as I find it distracting.

I was out yesterday looking for Monarch butterflies, and this little hummer posed for me for quite a while. I was in a difficult position -- if I backed up at all to get a straighter shot at him (her?), then leaves and twigs would get in the way. But I was happy with this small sequence.

I went to a layers and textures workshop earlier this year, and found the technique very addictive.

Raylee, I do like this not least of all because the texture process is not at all obvious. The whole thing reminds me of the day I was abducted by aliens....or was that a dream?

Antonio, the portrait. I really can not make my mind up about this. It certainly grabs you attention and I love the character of the subject I am just not sure about the application of the texture. It is very gritty and I find that a little distracting. I actually think that the image does everything it sets out to do but I can not help feeling a gentle going over the face area with a soft brush set at high opacity may break the texture up a little.

I have been struggling with the portrait side of this. It is the hardest thing to get right. I posted this elsewhere but it should be here really. I still keep going back to this...something niggles...



On the other hand I was bowled over by your 'Chaos'. I love simple images and I am not generally drawn toward complexity in an image but this is a simple image in spite of it's complexity...an oxymoron I know...but I think this image is a contradiction and that really works.

Elise, your seascape reminds me of some old postcards we have (not in a bad way). I do like the effect and actually think that the colour in the sea adds something to the image.

Diane, your workshop worked. The merging is spot on in this image. It is very addictive and I spend far too much time messing about...I do like the results though.

I have been trying to make a series out of these but what came up was bad enough to be sent to the garbage
I even made a triptych but I found it to be very confusing.

The only think I would try next time is to use a tripod and position the tree branch in the same position on both images. Maybe you still can do it ...
Now that I am reviewing the post I noticed that you have a background which is the basis better yet is behind the two images. Never tried this...

I did it he usual way: layers above layers with different ... can't remember now ... blending modes and watching the results.
I stop when I like them. I save and try again to see if I can get something better or worst

However I have to admit - why shouldn't I ? - that your portrait is really very good. I have seen it somewhere and indeed it belongs here also.

Yes, images like "Chaos" are very hard to do. It is true that I did that one in a couple of minutes, I tried to do 3 of them and they were not working.
Sometimes it is easy to make one image but 3 images coherent is a different matter
