Thanks John. There's considerable glare on the cockpit, and some on the gunner's turret, which I was unsuccessful in removing during post-processing.

Beautiful rich tones. They show off the plane so very well. And a good shutter speed not to freeze the prop.

Is that an aerial that stung out between the tail-fin and the top of cockpit. If the gunner was into an enemy plane and it crossed over the path of that .... what happens?

The one you asked about is a High Frequency (HF) antenna. You can also make out in the photo some of the other antennae this model of aircraft had. You pose a good question regarding what would happen if the gunner "shot through" the HF antenna. I cannot find any answer to that on the web, but while looking for an answer I found remarks about other planes having a "stop" of some sort that prevented a gunner from hitting parts of his own plane. There were also remarks that some gunners did shoot off portions of their own planes. These remarks, however, were not specifically about the Avenger. The remarks can be found here:
