    Slippery Sly One

Slippery, because I struggled for focus, what with the falling snow and the heaviness of the lens (300 mm + 1.4 teleconverter). My shutter speed was too high and I paid the price with what is a high ISO for the D7100. I used an RBG curve on my original edit that seemed to bring out colour noise. After a lot of reading, and messing around with the noise reduction sliders in Capture One, plus selective contrast and sharpening, I managed an improvement, I think. Let me know if you think I could do better.

I love this image for the buggies traveling in the background, seemingly oblivious to the fox's presence. I exist, he seems to be saying, whether or not you see me and capture me with your stupid, unwieldy lens.

Janis, I don't think the bush in the foreground does justice to the picture. I think it confines the fox a tad. That is only my opinion and oh! don't crop it. I mean the fox needs space.

Thanks for the suggestion, Ole. I also raised the black point a tad and brightened.

have you considered going into local adjustments and do three separate layers. The background beyond the bushes, the bushes, the foreground with the fox.

    Hi Janis,

I might try to de-saturate and increase contrast, as shown the fur appears as color noise; perhaps just de-saturate the fox if possible. Nice effort.

I like the edited version. Removal of the bush in the foreground made a significant improvement.

Janis, I think it is better also consider John's suggestions.

I like the edited shot (post #3). Don't know that I'd bother unduly doing anything more than that - just enjoy.

    Thanks, all.

John, I am going to set this aside for a bit and come back to it.

Brian, could you be a little more specific about what you are visualizing? By the way, have you upgraded your C1 yet? Finally, support for my Sigma 18-35, though not for the Nikkor 300

Using local adjustments I worked in three distinct layers. Snow and stones, bushes, and background.

I boosted clarity, exposure and brightness in the fo.

for the bushes I added deep red skin tone, adjusted the exposure and brightness and upped clarity amnd structure

The BG got noise reduction, deep red skin tones, a boost in clarity and a touch more brightness.

I intentionally left the coyote alone.

I did indeed but perhaps not the way you might think. I took advantage of the sale price to upgrade to C!-10. Next year when it goes on sale I'll get 11.
