    Vancouver Streets

Was in this beautiful City on Sunday with my hubby and of course had to bring the camera (and the labs... who after going for a nice hike at Lighthouse Park, hung in the Jeep for a bit while we went downtown).
I love Vancouver. It's a beautiful City and the Howe Sound is indescribable.

Anyhow, a couple photographs of stuff that kind of caught my eye. I was using Acros Mode with my fuji 23mm (35 crop) in aperture priority. It was fairly dark but with the street and shop lights, so pretty high ISO. So yeah, they are grainy and noisy but I sort of like that

    Powerful images indeed.

Reminding us of how lucky we are . . .

Been there briefly but but didn't see any of that.

Nice series, I'm sure you know that billboards aren't of the highest quality and are meant to be viewed from a distance; even with the noise capture looks acceptable and the noise in the other images seem to fit the imagery. As conversation regarding home already in progress at Only the strong survive Vancouver's homeless district is another that just suddenly springs up at you or the tourist suddenly finds themselves right smack in the middle after traversing the downtown district and Gastown.

Thanks John. Yes this billboard was tucked into a high corner and I thought it was cool. These were all taken on chi chi Robson street. Gastown I've explored quite a bit. Very interesting. West end is beautiful. The area really struggli my is east end. That's where a lot of the opiod overdoses are happening and lots of problems in general. I usually like to see all parts of a city but I'm never shocked at anything I see. I lived in Oakland after all 😁

Had quite a few good spots in Vancouver for street photography, had an unfortunate experience when visiting though; I was in front of the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Gardens first full day in the city and experienced a popping sound and sharp pain in my leg, excruciating pain and was lucky enough to finish walking the grounds of the garden. Found a Big Bus ticket stand nearby and bought a ticket to finish my days tour, luckily again one of the stops was near my hotel, nursed my leg with ice, heating rub, and suppression stocking and was able to complete my vacation. The Big Bus tour had a stop in Gastown and that was how I ended up in what you called the east end.

Ouch that doesn't sound like a lot of fun. You are certainly dedicated to finishing your tours. lol. I will have to check out those Gardens next time in the city.
I honestly like Gastown. It's very interesting. Not for the faint of heart tho. LOL

I lived and worked in Vancouver for ten years some time ago so was curious what would be in your Vancover Streets thread. You captured a good set of images. The noise/gaininess adds to the overall effect.

Donald, thank you for your kind comments.

Bruce, thank you for your kind words. Vancouver is a beautiful City. I do take positive/joyful photographs as well of street life . Just don't want to post too much.
I actually added in camera grain to these images as I think this style of B&W is a good place for it. I suppose I could also just use my film camera.
