    Digital Advance Pro Filters

I purchased a minty used Canon 35mm f/2 IS lens which has a 67mm Digital Advance Pro CPL by Japan Optics included. The gent from whom I purchased the lens and filter told me that he paid one hundred U.S. Dollars for the CPL.

I had some serious doubts about this but I did a Google search and came upon the website for Digital Advance from Japan Optics. They have some seriously expensive filters listed. I couldn't find the Digital Advance Pro 67mm CPL but did find a Digital Advance Ultra HD Pro CPL Filter listed at $249.95 That's a hefty price for a 67mm filter.

It's quite possible that he did pay a hundred bucks for this filter. But, OTOH, this might be a lower grade filter from Japan Optics. Even B&W and of course, Hoya, have their various grades of filters. It might be a Chinese knock-off also

Has anyone ever heard of Digital Advance filters from Japan Optics?

BTW: I love a 35mm prime on a full frame camera. This lens on my new 6D2 will probably be my go to low light outfit...

I don't know Richard, but when I look at the Digital Advance site, all the alarm bells go off.

There is no street address, email contact or phone number for the company. The products look high end, price wise, but there are no data sheets or other information that other high end filter suppliers will tend to have.

Japan Optics, which is a legitimate company, makes scopes for guns, not camera filters.

One easy check would be to look at the filter mount material. If it is brass, then I might be a bit more confident, but if it is aluminum or plastic, I'd be fairly certain you are holding a cheap Chinese knockoff.

my thoughts are that I am well versed enough regarding photo gear that I would have heard of a brand that costs $250 USD for a 67mm CPL...

However, I have a 67mm B+W CPL that I use for my 70-200mm f/4L IS lens. I will test this Digital Advance filter alongside the B+W model. If the imagery of the Digital Advance filter somewhat matches the B+W, I will keep the D.A. filter and use it. If not, I will sell it on eBay for ten dollars or so
