Yes, this was announced some weeks ago, I believe at the same time that what had been "Lightroom CC" (the subscription software resident on your computer) was renamed "Lightroom Classic" and "Lightroom CC" became the name of the new, stripped down on-the-cloud version.
The bottom line is that if you want Adobe's photo products, you will have to rent them by the month via the subscription plan. I reluctantly gave up and made that switch quite a long time ago and have actually been quite happy with it, despite my dislike of the subscription model in principle.

Definitely old news Russell. Lightroom 6 was released in April 2015, so it is definitely getting on age wise.

The significance is that this release means no further new cameras will be added. Bug fixes only from here (though I've read that the new improved Auto tone somehow slipped in).
