What I show here is the actual file I have sent to the printer with one caveat. I print using the AdobeRGB colour space, but convert to sRGB when I post here. This means that one does not see the impact of either tone of the paper (all papers tend to be more yellow than what we see on a computer screen), nor do we see how the colours reproduced in print.

No I don't use a template per se, but I have created a custom crop of 9" x 6-1/2" that I use to work the original image; working in the ProPhoto RGB colour space. That becomes my "final" Photoshop file. I do all my print prep on a throw-away file.

I create a new AdobeRGB page that is 8-1/2" x 11" at 360PPI. I take the original file, convert it to AdobeRGB and downsize it to 6-1/2" x 11" at 360PPI. I merge all the layers, cut and paste to my throw-away copy. I do all my final output sharpening at print size and add the title. I just eyeball where the caption goes; I've done this so many times I hit the target pretty well 100% of the time. Once I have successfully printed the image, I convert it to sRGB for posting and then throw it away.

I have a shoot to go to in Montreal pretty well all day on Saturday, so I will be prepping and testing the gear tomorrow, so I'm posting a bit early again this week.

This shot was a pleasant surprise for me. The Niagara Parks Commission had updated all of the lights that they use to light up Niagara Falls at night last spring, so I wanted to shoot the lit up falls again. When I got there with all my gear, I discovered that they would be shooting off fireworks that evening, so I got a bit of a two-for-one shot here. The fireworks definitely steal the show, but the lighting on the Falls and the water added a nice counterpoint.

It should be a fun shoot as in combines a bit of UrbEx and model photography.

We have a number of models lined up (in fact I'm driving two of them to the shoot) and the setting is an old abandoned paper mill just to the west of Montreal. So flash and portable studio flash for lighting, as well as closed shoes and flashlights to prevent stubbed toes or worse.

My only real concern is traffic volume; the Montreal Grand Prix auto race is taking place this weekend too, so there will be a lot of traffic heading into Montreal on Saturday morning.

In another 6 months, we will be thinking about Christmas, so here is an early start.

"Alight at Night" is a Christmas oriented program at Upper Canada Village, in Morrisburg, Canada where the 150 year old buildings there are decked out in modern Christmas lights. Obviously a night time shot, taken with a heavy duty tripod. The event is quite popular, so shooting here and avoiding getting people in the shot, plus working in cold and snowy conditions is a challenge.

Other than taking pictures of Christmas lights, I'm not a fan of what the marketing and retail industries have done with the festive season either Donald. Any excuse to bump up sales.

The main reason this shot was posted is that I noticed that I took it almost exactly 6 months ago. Sitting here in my shorts and wearing sandals is a lot more fun than wandering around wearing my winter photography outfits...

As we are into the first few hours of summer here in the Northern Hemisphere, I thought I would continue my winter theme with this night shot of the National War Memorial of Canada in Ottawa. This is the first (and so far only) image in this print series that was not printed on a standard piece of 8-1/2" x 11" paper. Here I printed the pano on a 17" x 22" piece of paper and cut it to final size.

Back to my standard sized prints. This shot of the famous Tiger's Nest Monastery in Bhutan is definitely my favourite image taken during my trip to that country in 2014. It is at an altitude of 3,120 metres / 10,240 ft on the edge of a cliff. It was originally built in 1692 and was badly damaged by fire in 1998 and reopened in 2005.

his was also one of the hardest shots to get as we had not acclimatized to the altitude of the place and hiked up a rise some 900m / 3000ft over a distance of 2.2 km / 1.4 miles. When we started off, the whole mountain was enveloped in clouds. This shot was taken about 1/2 way up and by the time we reached the monastery itself, the clouds had all cleared away.

This is another shot taken in Bhutan. These are costumed monks who are marching out into the courtyard to dance at the Thimphu Tshechu Festival at the Tashichho dzong (a dzong is a fortified monastery) which is located in Bhutan's capital city, Thimpu. This is the largest and best known of the many religious festivals in the country.

Golden Temple (Sri Harmandir Sahib) - Amritsar, India

This is part of the Golden Temple complex, the holiest Sikh site and a major pilgrimage centre. Not all pilgrims (or visitors) are rich and do need to east, so around 60,000 people are fed here at no charge every day. The meals are simple and vegetarian (yes, I did eat there). This is the beginning of the process where plates are handed out to those coming to eat. In the background one can see the washing up area.

My last shot (for now?) of the Golden Temple (Sri Harmandir Sahib) - Amritsar, India

This night-time shot shows the famed Golden Temple itself as well as the causeway across the Sarovar. This is one of those shots that turned out remarkably well, given that I had to hand-hold the shot as tripods were not allowed.

One of my favourite topics when travelling is recording customs that are dying out, so the Apitani people in Arunachel Pradesh State in the very North-Eastern part of India were on my list of people to photograph. The women wear large plugs in their noses and have tattooed faces. The Indian Government has been discouraging this practice, so only women in their 50s and older follow this unique cultural practice.

This shot is of a recent widow that I took on the back porch of her house, in the Ziro Valley.
