Re: 2018 Print 52 Shadowman P15 Cepa Gallery

    Hi John,

Your shot of Market Arcade is dynamite. My earliest exposure to that structure was in the early 70's, and except for replacing broken panes, painting and cleaning, it hasn't changed. It's a glorious venue for 'togs, and has loads of seperate "targets of opportunity."

I'd be cautious with MDF as it is highly hydroscopic unless sealed very, very well. Even exterior grade MDF acts the same. If exposed to water or moisture, the material absorbs and becomes spongy and "grows" a lumpy surface. Your use of the material for this purpose here in WNY might be OK if you seal the material on all surfaces, including the edges, BEFORE mounting the print, but may be risky. It depends on where you will display and for how long.

Drilling thru the material exposes the inner surfaces of the hole to atmospheric moisture, so those surfaces should be heavily sealed as well.

A great series of shots, John. Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Zen,

Thanks for the comments and suggestions, the Market Arcade is definitely a photographer's gem, I have to try a few shots someday at midday with even more visitors strolling through. Thanks for the comments on the MDF, I viewed a few demonstrations where artists either painted the sides or coated with the resin, I did the coating method with this piece, however I didn't do anything to the backing except between the print and the board. For now the Arcade piece is displayed in my home but if I get a chance to exhibit my work it will be one of the pieces I will showcase.

I was working this scene Springing Forth by climbing a hill trying to fill the frame with the tree and came upon this setting of Mirror Lake inside Forest Lawn cemetery.

Hi John - talented young lady! You've caught the joy!

Reading about the Moab Somerset Velvet paper, the info about it says that a print should be protected with varnish spray or gel. Do you go with this technique or do you protect your prints in another fashion? Just curious as I usually am.

    I appreciate your talent!

    Hi Sandy,

Normally I just place inside protective barrier such as a portfolio but I have been experimenting with Mod Podge and Epoxy Resins, the Mod Podge is easiest to use and gives a good clear coating. Thanks for commenting.

Hi John - I've used Mod Podge for art projects but I hadn't thought about it for prints. Thanks for the info!

    Hi John,
Nice shot, but I wonder - with colors so bright, why did you choose monotone version to print and display?

    Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Sandy,

The epoxy resin product is called ArtResin, its a bit more involved with the setup and application but might appeal to you for some images; the coating can be as much as 1/8" thick.

    Hi Zen,

There were some distractions (red tones, bright spots) that I wanted to naturally subdue, plus I wanted to see the difference between mono/color version and I liked the variety of textures that was displayed with the mono version. Thanks for commenting.

Printed on Inkpress Matte paper, 8.5" x 11.0", plan to mount to a clear background and then coat with an epoxy then backlight the final image.

Hi John - For #79, did she pose for you or was this one you captured while roaming? Either way, it is a well done image! I like how it came together!
