    Like it , personally , there is too much above the subject that is blurred and takes up to much of your capture , I would rejudge and crop some what.

    For me, Brian, the 'mess' still needs to be reasonably in focus and have some connection with the fungi subject. So I would think about a crop from the left side to remove that pale vertical stem and at least the horizontal leaf from the top.

    I suspect something along those lines would still retain enough of the background environment but avoid it becoming too distracting.

    I did try that route. But I found that I lioked the frameing effect the pale leaves gave. But I could crop it in closer?

    Maybe just show those items on the left but selectively tone them down a little so that aren't appearing to dominate that part of the scene?

    I do believe there is good shot hidden here somewhere. I'm going to play with it for a while and hopefully find it.
