Photographer's something or other

Last night shooting the moon rise over the San Diego Skyline, a photo club member was using a program on her Smartphone which when she selected the location at which we were standing, showed her where the moon was expected to rise. Apparently it does the same for sun rise and sunset.

I don't remember the name but, it was something like PTE...

If I had that program, I would not have selected the spot where I was for the photography.

Another good app that's free is Exsate Golden Hour. It provides all of the sun/moon data, angles, etc, and shows it all graphically or on google maps. It gives times for rise/set, golden hour, blue hour, etc. You can choose your current location or any spot on the planet either by inputing lat/lon, city name, or choosing it on a map. Pretty handy little tool.

I have used TPE for years. It has capabilities far beyond what I use. A competitor is PhotoPills, but Ihaven't used that enough to know the differences.

Thanks all for the help and the APPS. I was told where the group expected the moon to rise and it would have been a spectacular image but, the location over which it rose was pretty drab and uninteresting. If I had any of the above mentioned apps on my iPhone, I could easily have changed locations, about a quarter of a mile away to a place with a more photogenic foreground for the moon rise, since I arrived there with plenty of time to spare.

Also there's something called stellarium, http://stellarium.org - can be installed equally on phones and on computers, shows you exactly how the sky should look at any time in any place. Good for spotting the best date/time for the milkyway but also shows moon & planets.

TPE will also tell you things like elevation at any time from whatever point you want to use. I don't know if it is still there, but at one time, there was a video explaining that he wanted to capture the moon or sun directly behind a castle in Scotland from a specific point, and he used TPE to find the time and date that had the right elevation.
