    Waiting for his home loan

Taken last fall while on one of our Sunday morning walks with my dear friend Sid.
The irony of the homeless man sleeping in front of a bank whose products and services he is likely never to use was inescapable, and before moving on, I grabbed this shot.
Converted to black and white in Photoshop

Nikkor 24 f2 AIS manual focus
    Fuji 100 ISO colour slide

    Hi Robert:

A well presented image and sadly a too familiar one from my time in Vancouver and Victoria - more so in the colder months when many homeless people come to BC to avoid the killer cold temperatures.

Sadly more of this is apparent as the gap between "haves" and "have-nots" becomes greater.

I might add that Canada's banking system is both archaic and a rip-off. In NZ we gave up cheques before the turn of the century and most self-service web bank accounts are free of fees here. Transferring money to other accounts is done from your web banking interface - direct bank-to-bank for no fee, while in Canada I had to use VISA and pay $2.50 per transaction. When I needed to do an electronic transfer to a local Canadian bank I had to go to a branch and pay them $80 to do something I could do at home for free here. Sadly most Canadians don't realize how much better it could be.

While there is certainly a problem with homeless in major cities in the “americas” I’ve read it ain’t such a pretty picture in nz either. Nz has the worst problem in he OECD? I’ve even read sources saying that nz has the worst homeless problem in the world!
I’m hapoy you love it there, but come on Trev, it ain’t all rosy either and certainly not absent of the problems facing other nations. ... (hottest month being January ever recorded)
