Re: Doe River
Interesting explanation and supporting images(or vice versa).
It's amazing what a dynamic creation we inhabit. Signs of that dynamic nature are everywhere. Mountains carved by glaciers of former ice ages, canyons cut by rivers, lakes formed in volcanic calderas, coastlines ever changed by sea and storm, etc. Yet now that we're here, in our arrogance we expect the world to be static because it's darned inconvenient when things change.

So much like the Highlands of Scotland. And I cannot better Dan's statement, other than to say that, with the backing of some politicians, we are wrecking the environment that we profess to love. The unfortunate fact is that by the time it's gone, those politicians will be pushing up the daisies.

Re: Doe River
It's been a few years since I've visited your neighbourhood. If you have any good photos of the Bennett Dam it would be a good example of how we like to change things.

Re: Doe River
To elaborate on Dan and Donald's comments; sometime even when inconvenient things are a certainty the mighty dollar overrides good sense.
This is a land slump, we have tons of these along the rivers where the soil has become unstable and the river bank finds a new stable arrangement. There is a large dam planned for the Peace River. There is good evidence that the new reservoir will create thousands of these, huge ones, as backed up water saturates the soil So many that the reservoir may be filled in and dam become largely useless in a matter of decades. At a cost of 20 billion dollars or more to build.
The dam is already controversial as it will destroy very valuable river bottom areas vital to the local wildiife. As well you can see in the photos, the south facing slopes are grasslands absolutely essential for the local wildlife as it greens up in the spring . Plus it is a unique ecosystem. All for no good reason.
