From that angle this was about all you could do, Brian. Concentrate on getting good detail from the available focus areas and let everything else become out of focus. Exposure works fine.
Getting other bits like the foreground legs sharply in focus is possible but would require a merge of several shots.
Yes, you certainly got the eye focused Brian, but the angle from which the shot has been taken does not help with the overall image.
Maybe try cropping out the leg and do a tighter composition?
One of the ladies I work with was looking at it, I told her the problem was the very flat focal range and hard to get all the elements squashed onto one plane. She said she could arrange that.
