Tasmanian Sunrise

This is a blend of two shots at 0 and +2. I took the +2 shot to give me a chance at blending in some details in the shadows without bringing in too much noise. Any thoughts or suggestions?

If you can select the sky as a separate layer I would try reducing the brightness. I think the foreground is good, the bright sky just overwhelms it. As well, i suspect having the line of hills darker would enhance the image.

Maybe that bright part of sky near the top edge is so bright that it overwhelms everything else? Possibly fractionally tone down the highlights in this area; or even a crop from the sky to just above mast top?

Alternatively, a slight crop from the water seems to balance better if the sky is left as it is now?

I'm not really sure about this scene. Possibly the two halves (boats & water versus sky) both seem to be fighting for my attention with neither one taking the dominant position?

A pleasant scene IMO. Bows of boats are pointed into the frame which is always a good thing. My only suggestion is to selectively de-saturate the blue channel on the boats. It looks downright florescent.

Many thanks for your replies. Firstly Dan, I pulled back the blue channel a tad and it is an improvement so thank you. Funny you don't see something until someone points it out and then you can't not see it.

The other comments bring up an interesting question for me. This particular morning the sunrise made the news in both Tasmania and Victoria as being incredibly beautiful. I Remember being blown away by it when I saw it and my memory is that it was as bright and overwhelming as my pic shows. But memory is a fickle process so I thought maybe I had succumbed to too much enthusiasm and overcooked it in PP so I went back to the RAW file to check. For once my memory was correct I did virtually no PP at all except blending in the shadows from another exposure just to open them up a little. The sunrise was this bright and intense, and it is an accurate representation of the sky I saw. But I agree as far as the pic goes the sky does overwhelm everything else. So I will have a play with it and see what I can come up with.

It looks pretty good to me conkerwood, just as it is. If it were mine, I'd print it and hang it on my wall.
