A very interesting capture Brian. The Robber Fly? and its perch stand out from the backgound very agreeably. Definitely an unusual treatment and one I would not have thought of straight off. Looking at it in the lightbox it is even more striking.

Like a lot of people I started out in B&W (because that was all there was ) but generally these days, I must 'see' the image as a B&W candidate 'before' capture. Afterwards it simply does not come into my thinking.

As regards the title... elegiac as usual and I do find it peculiarly apt... (although I suspect the 'longing' is for fresh prey!

It is a Robber. I have my LCD set to B&W. I'm about half way to being dominated by B&W. Fodr decades now I have appreciated the old B&W movies and I'm enjoing finding ways to enhance the emotional content of my shots by eliminating the distraction of too many colours.

I need to read more. I had to look up 'elegaic'!

    It probably is.

I had no idea what was going to reveal itself clicking on a thread with that title Even not being a bug guy nor a B/W aficionado (or maybe because I'm neither?) I think it's an awesome image. Nicely done.

Thanks, I find myself with a desire to use my photography for emotions as much as for beauty. Your Polar bear in a snow storm image was one of the shots that nudged me in this direction

I do have a preference for B&W photos but I think your photo deserves full blown colour. That is only my opinion.
