The considered use of negative space can enhance the composition if it is balanced properly, unfortunately in the case of the first of the two pics I don't think you have quite got the balance right. The blooms feel as if they have been crammed into the corner of a somewhat blobby brown plane which tends to overpower the blooms. I would suggest you experiment with a crop from the top and right perhaps taking off a quarter of the height and width to see if you can attain a better balance. Having said that, however the blooms themselves have come out quite well in the first pic. Of the two I think the first has more potential, it is very clear where you want the viewer's eye to fall. The second pic to my eye seems a little confused with the OOF blooms at the back being a distraction.
