    Pink Streaks

While waiting on the others in the house leaving for the day's activities I had a moment, albeit a rushed one, to make a decent attempt at capturing these. I was mostly focused on making sure there was no motion blur and trying to ensure that the focus was good...so much so that I did not notice how dirty the petals were until I went to edit: see speck of dirt, click speck of dirt, move 1 mm in any direction to next speck of dirt, repeat...

    Any feedback/comments welcome; thanks.

The considered use of negative space can enhance the composition if it is balanced properly, unfortunately in the case of the first of the two pics I don't think you have quite got the balance right. The blooms feel as if they have been crammed into the corner of a somewhat blobby brown plane which tends to overpower the blooms. I would suggest you experiment with a crop from the top and right perhaps taking off a quarter of the height and width to see if you can attain a better balance. Having said that, however the blooms themselves have come out quite well in the first pic. Of the two I think the first has more potential, it is very clear where you want the viewer's eye to fall. The second pic to my eye seems a little confused with the OOF blooms at the back being a distraction.

    I hope this helps

That is exactly what I was thinking.

Thank you for the feedback. Here's a "crop" of the first one. In quotes, because it's not really the crop, it's the original before I added the extra background in PS as seen in the first version. When Editing the photos, I was trying to think of how I might use them in a 'comics' sequence, and the needs for the photo in that context required the additional negative space, in my mind. The reason I didn't compose/edit the background flowers out of the 2nd shot is because I wanted it to be clear that we were looking at the flowers from the first shot from a different angle.
