This is up there with your very best Brian.

Have you tried toning down the leaf brightness? In doing that you could then raise the critter a weevil bit making him more prominent.

    I don't think so.
You sure are lucky to have such a variety of insects to photograph.

Weevils always make interesting subjects. I can't resist photographing them, particularly when I find a mating pair.

Often very tricky to identify beyond 'unidentified Weevil' though. Sometimes it requires microscopic examination of the scales.

In some ways I prefer the angle of the first image but with the crop you have managed to lose some of the out of focus foreground.

I like to get the most acutance out of such shots.

An easy one-shot way to do that is via Piccure+.

    Here's Brian's second shot compared:

    Beware The Wild Weevil

I can get similar in RawTherapee but it does take a while ...

I just got C1 v11 and I have more ways to sharpen that I haven't tried. From what I just read piccure+ changes my files to Tiff which would limit C1 potential?

I spent some time this morning reworking the shot. (I begin to appreciate E.Adams a little more with every edit) More comments and critiques please and thank you.

No. Please look at the filenames in my post. With my version, if you put a JPEG in, it gives a JPEG out.

I have no idea what TIFFs do to Capture One, sorry.

    Ted (and Brian)

Capture One can import, edit and export tiff files without any issues (https://help.phaseone.com/en/CO10/Op...e-and-RAW.aspx).

Brian - if you called picture+ from C1, it may have been set to take the return as a tiff file.

Yes it can but it works best with Raw.

Capture 1 is built to perform to its maximum with RAW. It will work on TIFF and JPEG but with limited functionality.

I may have been talking at cross-purposes. On my my machine, Piccure+ is stand-alone and I didn't realize that Capture One was limited as regards TIFF and JPEG. My proprietary converter is just the same - I should have realized.

Could be time for the Giant Leap to RawTherapee, Brian.

I have dabbled in RT but I find the interface does not work well wit my mind.
