    Nighttime in New York City

I had a few spare hours one evening during a recent business trip to New York, so I spent a few hours wandering around with my camera. At first I was tempted to pack it in as soon as the rain started, but i stuck it out and actually benefitted from it in a couple of shots. Nighttime photograph in the city is not really in my comfort zone, but it takes practice to improve... C&C definitely welcome.

Captures the 'feel' of NYC in the dark, well. Be thankful it was only rain not snow!

NYC. The saying, "I wouldn't want to live there but it is a great place to visit" certainly holds true. After 5 years and 2 residencies there it was time to go. But I sure like to visit now.

I hear you. I really enjoy visiting too, but I don't think I could live there for any length of time.

Thank you! I was quite lucky, because the following day was well below freezing and very windy. Doubtful I would have ventured out in that... at least for long.

Very nice photos! It's a hard choice between #1 & #2 as my favorite, because they both have a very nice out of focus element to them. If I were forced to pick, I'd have to say #1 because I'm partial to the softness of the water. The only issue I have with #1 is the one in-focus car. It breaks the contrast for me between the motion blurred and soft foreground and the sharply focused background.

I also really love the coolness of #4. Again... great photos!

Thanks Julius, I appreciate the comments and feedback. That car had been bothering me a bit too, so your post was the impetus for me to finally spend a little time blending another exposure and clone stamping. Here's the updated photo.

    Nice series Arno.

Definitely like the "fix" of the fountain one, with the car cloned out.
Really vibrant street scenes. I've never been to NYC, but maybe some day.

Definite improvement with removing the car.

#2 is my favorite. Capturing more of the energy and mood rather than a specific subject. I think the more abstract works very well with rain and neon lights.

I was just about to mention "the feel" of New York City until Ian beat me to it.

Many cities have their own special feel and New York certainly has a number of "feels" to it. Like a conglomeration of many different cities...
