Project 52: Week 11, Margaret River Memories
The Margaret River adventure ended with our return home on Sunday. To close this theme of "Project 52" here are a few images that capture the flavour of our 4 weeks there.
The first is totally Australian - gum trees at the edge of a dam (or to be precise in this case, a weir across the Margaret river) shot just before the sun broke the horizon on what turned out to be an unusually cloudy morning.
Ghostly gums:
The second is also specific to the region - this time the area around Margaret River itself. It is a variety of Red Dragonfly, the Narrow Lobed Glider, Tramea stenoloba.
Red Dragonfly:
Next up is typically Australian, a pesky fly! I think it is a blowfly but was not able to make a definitive identification.
Fly on wire:
One colourful native species that is abundant in the region is the Australian Ringneck, known locally as a 28 from its typical calling which sounds very like someone saying "28".
"28":
Margaret River is a popular surfing spot in Australia - there is a national competition taking place there this week. Not sure if this dude will make it to the finals, but who knows.
Surfer:
The last image was taken on a glorious sunny day when we spent a few hours at the nearest large town, Busselton. Busselton is a popular tourist destination, one of the attractions being its 1.8km long wooden jetty. An Internet search will show you the "tourist view" of it, but I opted for this shot from the other side of the buildings.
Blue and white with a touch of yellow:

Hi Bill - I bet you had a wonderful time during your Margaret River adventure based on these pics. The first one "Ghostly Gums" is my favorite of the series but they are all well done.

Thanks John and Sandy.
Sandy, yes we did thank you, and of the set Ghostly Gums is one of the two I like best (the other being Fly on a wire). This is the second time that I have photographed the gums and these are much better than the first lot (taken a couple of years ago, at same time of day, with the D7100).
