All the Egrets and Herons are in their mating attire and swooning their little hearts out in search of the perfect mate. With the Great Egrets, their beaks turn very lime greenish up toward their eyes. This one is definitely on the ready, set, go point.

I can never tell Ellie from Elmer. Up here on the northern SC coast they've just begun showing breeding colors in the past week or so.

You have to lift their tail feathers to be sure and with a beak that can nearly pierce a 1/4" thick piece of wood, I'll leave that specificity to others and just shoot a guess.

This is lovely.

The whites are nicely under control and the reflections and the tree lines really add to the image.

Never knew about the green beak- I'll keep an eye out on our egrets over here
