    Adobe Illustrator

Hi all. Glad to join the community!
Are there members who use Adobe Illustrator? I was given an .ai file to do a simple changes. But Illustrator won't let me save it.
After saving the file this error message occurred: Unrecognized Format
What's going on? Please guys, any help will be appreciated...
    Thank you

    Dylan,

I don't think I've ever read anyone on this forum using Illustrator; doesn't mean no one does just haven't read any threads. Perhaps you can look through the websites troubleshooting section.

    Re: Adobe Illustrator

    From the Adobe website:

An AI file is a drawing created with Adobe Illustrator, a vector graphics editing program. It is composed of paths connected by points, rather than bitmap image data. AI files are commonly used for logos and print media.

    More Information
Screenshot of a .ai file in Adobe Illustrator CC 2017

AI file open in Adobe Illustrator CC 2017
Since Illustrator image files are saved in a vector format, they can be enlarged without losing any image quality. Some third-party programs can open AI files, but they may rasterize the image, meaning the vector data will be converted to a bitmap format.

To open an Illustrator document in Photoshop, the file must first have PDF Content saved within the file. If it does not contain the PDF Content, then the graphic cannot be opened and will display a default message, stating, "This is an Adobe Illustrator file that was saved without PDF Content. To place or open this file in other applications, it should be re-saved from Adobe Illustrator with the "Create PDF Compatible File" option turned on."

    Does that help at all?

The only other ‘Illustrator’ format I can think of is that of Affinity Photo who do an Illustrator format too.

    Re: Adobe Illustrator

I do use Illustrator, but not nearly as much as I did a few years ago.

Illustrator is a bit strange when saving as one has to save for some file formats and use the export function for others like *.psd, *.tif or *.jpg formats.

You'll have to give us a bit more information as to what you are doing to help here.

Affinity Designer will open .ai files, provided that the pdf stream has been enabled. If it has, then it preserves the vector structure.

I used Adobe Illustrator for years then switched to CorelDRAW 2017 and found it to be easier, cheaper, more flexable, more powerful, and very good at reading and saving many file types. It will open Illustrator files.

    1. Install the latest version of Illustrator.
To fix Illustrator errors install the latest update and you can minimize the possibility that the error is caused by a problem in the application itself. (To determine which version of Illustrator you're using, in Illustrator choose Help > About Illustrator.) The latest update for Illustrator is available from the Adobe website at www.adobe.com/support/downloads.
