    Same watch different shot

    Same watch different shot

Donald as both moderator and mentor tells me i need to put in a link to the first pocket watch shot. So here's the link

Just in case you are curious. About a week ago the LCD on my camera crashed and burned. Being an old man with a bad back I have a lot of trouble stooping and twisting enough to use the eye finder for outdoor macro shots. No trouble at all for studio work where I can adjust everything to a comfortable sitting position.

Somewhere between two and three weeks from today my new camera will be arriving. Until then it will be studio work. Studio work means that you will be seeing a lot of shots like the one below and zero shots of live insects. Because studio work is more time consuming you will also be seeing fewer shots. If you are a bug shot fan… hang in they will be back. Back and once I am used to the new camera hopefully back and better!

2 small flashlights, tethered, and in B&W because color was just too hard on the eyes.

JBW Assuming that the watch is silver, then I prefer the B/W version The colour one, to me, has a bluish cast

You need to put a link in to the 'other shot'.

I much prefer this one. A wider range of tones, I think, but more important for me, more of the interesting detail is clear.

I agree about the detail. This time I used a magnifying glass to to find the detail in the engraving and lined it up appropriately. Now about the wider range of tones: The first shot was full colour. This shot is B&W.

Agreed about the bluish tint. I'm doubtful that it is silver, it never tarnishes nor does it polish. I too prefer this shot.

By tonality, I was referring to luminance, not color. Compare the histograms of the two shots. The mass in the histogram of this shot is much wider.

I assume that you've looked inside on the back case for marks that might indicate the material.

    Might be a Nickel Alloy:

Sorry, my mind didn't make the connection between tone and luminance. I did adjust the lighting for more brightness and less blown out areas.

I have now but even with strong light and a magnifying glass I could see no markings

    A pity, that, Brian.
