    A Beaten Up Rose

Our rose bush was doing all right until a night of thunderstorms came along:

    A Beaten Up Rose

    Sad, ennit?

I'll bet that if you eliminate the flash and find the right angle there's lots of beauty to be found. And the scent is still there

Yes, there was some specular reflection and the sun was shining straight at it with no diffusion.

RawDigger calculates the scene light value (LV) as 14.6 EV which is pretty bright, as you say.
