I assume that an Adobe DNG profile is a DCP file (.dcp) which makes me wonder what all the talk of ICC is about unless it's referring to JPEGs embedded in the raw file?
Not quite Ted. Most of camera profiling work is done with the X-Rite ColorChecker Passport target and software. It only works with an Adobe DNG format file and outputs an ICC profile.

Hi Ted
Bill was asking about camera profiles for Capture One and I've just been trying to emphasise that it is designed around ICC profiles, not DCP profiles. There is this obscure option in C1 for “dng file neutral” in the drop down box for “ICC Profile” which is where you select your camera profile. Bill was querying this.

Manfred as far as I know, the X-Rite software only produces dcp profiles, not ICC profiles. You have to use different software with the Color Checker to produce ICC profiles. I'm using RawDigger and Argyll.

I read them quickly. As far as I can tell they both make presets for a certain illumination/situation. There is no generic D850 or DNG profile. Just a wrong name including some adjustments.

Sorry; I meant .DCP. Sometimes the fingers work faster than the brain. Adobe = DCP and C1 = ICC.
If I remember correctly an earlier version of the X-Rite ColorChecker Passport software had a third tab to produce ICC profiles. Now we are down to producing either a single or dual illuminate DCP file.

That is interesting, I wonder why they dropped it?

Perhaps due to the large variety of classes of profiles (MNTR, etc) - not to mention V2 vs. V4, and matrix type or with CLUTs?

You may well be right there Ted. It might have been causing too many hassles.
