    Joy of going underwater

    Dear All,

Herewith I am sharing some pictures which were clicked recently at a swimming pool where some boys were enjoying. I liked the placement of subject the way i have framed them in the pic and I felt that BW version has made them interesting.

Kindly share your view, considering the composition and processing.

    Thanks and regards,

    Tejal

Tejal, This is a rather nice set of images.

I think for me that the middle image works best. I quite like the contrast between the active swimmer and the other who is floating nearby. It creates a pleasing dynamic aspect, enhanced for me by the additional contrast created by the dark area at the top of the image.

Comparing the bottom image with the one above I think there is too much 'open' water between thewo swimmers and it results in a distracting 'split' in the image. I have a feeling that there are two separate compositions competing against each other here.

The top image is similar to the middle capture but for me, but does not work as well. Again it is just my own preference but I think it would benefit from a crop top and bottom to place a bit more focus on the floating gentleman.

I do really like the way you have handled the light in these shots, the contrasts are spot on for me.

    Hi Tejal,

I like the compositions (and expressions), although the fairly large dark areas at the top of 1 and 2 are a bit of a distraction, but probably almost unavoidable - whetehr you'd want to try to do anything with them in PP (and what that might be), is another matter.

Would I be correct in thinking that 'the wave machine' was running? (at least in the first two)
I assume we're seeing the wave against a vertical side wall.

    Welcome back,
    Dave

All of the images have the same issue Tejal; they have two subjects, so the viewer's eyes cannot lock on the subject and keep moving between them. Had the swimmers been closer together or even overlapping they would have been a single subject and this issue would not exist.

    Hi Tejal,

Nice to hear from you again, nice set of images. I like the third the best as this one doesn't contain the distraction dark edge. I like your capture of the splash in the second image and that makes the dark area less noticeable. Processing looks fine especially on the skin tones.

thank you James for your valuable and detailed feedback. I do have a shot where the only floating man is there. To give balance to that black patch, which is in shape of a wave, i selected the frame with the other human in the top left corner. But as you said frame with single human may look better .

Thanks Dave . Yes that black part, actually it is brown, I couldn't avoid. When i converted these pics into B&W I found it is OK as it is giving the shape of the wave and not a straight line. Though I have eliminated some part from the top. Wave machine - I am not very sure. My whole attention was on composition and moment capturing , and moreover my son, ( visible in last image in bottom), I was worried for him as he is not good at swimming, so my attention was on him too .

Thanks a lot for your valuable feedback. .

Thanks John for your feedback. I think when i processed these pics i had similar thoughts about composition .
