I don't think the 2nd one is as strong as the other two, Bill.
In the first one, the fence, leading on to the wall enclose the key focal point (the farm buildings). That is a very well constructed image.
The flag makes the 3rd one. Otherwise it would just be a hill of snow and some trees. But the flag tells you that something goes on here. Again, good composition.

I agree with your comments but there is a sort of a "Donald" story to the second one: I went out this morning with the main aim of getting a shot of the wall that looks like a 'Y' on its side, and doing a high key B&W.
I spotted the first on the way back to the car and the third on the drive home and glad that I did as none of the dozen or so shots has jumped off the screen shouting "take me to Silver Efex Pro" but I did like these two for the reasons you mention .

I know the feeling well however. The one that you thought was going to be 'the image' falls a bit flat, but the others that you also noticed on the same trip come up trumps.
