    Boots

    Another one from the archives.

This is onc of my very first studio shots. I have no idea why I decided to photograph an old pair of work boots, but somehow this image still works fairly well for me.

I think you need to remove the hair (or whatever it is) from the lace bottom right.

Great texture in the leather and laces.

Thanks Greg - It's actually a frayed piece of the shoe lace. I thought so too and cloned it out, but I put it back in because I found I liked how it broke up the area in shadow between the sole and the heel as well as adding to the beat up boot look I was after.

I'll have another look at it.

    Nice shot.
Don't misunderstand me but I like this one more as your recent studio shots. Much more dynamic.

So you could have titled the thread "These Boots are made for Working"

I'd be interested to hear your reasoning on the framing?
IOW - What prompted the decision to go with this over something that lost some of the empty (negative) space over on the right hand side?

    TIA,
    Dave

Mostly because I was reframing the shot for printing. The image had not been cropped to fit onto a standard 8-1/2 x 11 sheet of paper with margins around for a mat. I am still searching around for a suitable baryta paper that is relatively easy to get so I picked up a box of Hahnemühle Fine Art Baryta to try. So I ended up converting this shot to B&W and printed another in colour just to see the paper performance.

It's a nice paper, but I'm not sold on the surface finish so will likely keep on testing once I run this box out.
