There are three questions that a person needs to answer when commenting on another's works:
1. Has the photographer shown the appropriate level of photographic techniques (for instance , is the exposure appropriate, is the image sharp enough, is the lighting used appropriate and working well, etc).
2. Has the photographer organized the elements in the image well (are there distractions, is the image well composed, has the space in the image been used effectively) and
3. What emotional impact does the image have on the viewer (mood, subject matter, emotional impact on the viewer, etc.)
In other words, the image should be evaluated for what it is, what works and what does not, regardless of personal tastes.
