    Ennui

This was taken in Yorkville, a very fashionable shopping and cultural area here in Toronto, on a Sunday afternoon a couple of summers ago.
While having a coffee outside, I spotted a couple sitting nearby, reading, and enjoying a lazy afternoon in the warm, summer weather.

Good street photo, maybe a tad too dark.

Based on the weather you (and I) are getting hit with this weekend, I am really looking forward to activities like this in a couple of months!

This is not fair. We are entering winter soon here in Victoria and the temperatures can plummet to 8 degrees in the mornings. Not happy at all

    Ole,
Give me your address, and I'll FedEx you a large container of ice and snow. It will be my pleasure.

Ok, then I'll send you a bucket of 45.8 degree sunshine and call it square

    Ole,
    45.8 degree sunshine?
    Thanks but no thanks.
Between my solar Dermatitis, and Grave's Disease, I have a serious aversion to the summertime, and truly prefer the ice and snow of winter, when I'm vastly more comfortable.

I also don't like hot weather. If I had the capability (financial and otherwise) I would spend the winters in San Diego and the winters in Perth Australia.

Perth and San Diego are relatively located at the same latitudes (close to 32 degrees South and North); and both have climates impacted by the nearby ocean so neither gets too cold in the winter.

Actually, if climate were my only criteria, I would live closer to the Pacific Ocean. I live 20-miles inland from the coast. That makes a big difference in this area. We do get hot several months of the year but, for the other nine months, our climate is absolutely lovely.

However, the area closer to the water is a LOT more expensive. I sold a very small tract home near the coast which had a postage stamp size yard. We wanted more room so we could help more rescue dogs. We bought a large 2,500 square foot home on over an acre of yard with 13 mature oak trees and several eucalyptus trees (we have since planted about ten citrus trees). The price we got for the tiny home along the coast was the same as we paid for this big home with the wonderful yard.

I like the lighting in this shot. The frame feels a little cramped to me - around the guy's feet and head.

I like the shot, but I have a comment that you may find predictable because I have made similar ones before. The key point of interest ("ennui") is the man's face, which is underexposed. Moreover, the faces are darker than the rock background on the right, which makes the latter distracting.

In this shot, it would be hard to handle this in the original capture because of the lighting. In general, it shouldn't be that hard to deal with in post, but in this case, the faces are sufficiently underexposed that brightening them starts to bring out artifacts. Still, to show the point I am making, I did a very quick and sloppy edit, brightening the faces and darkening the rock. I think it shows that it helps to shift the viewer's focus (mine, at least) back to the faces, where I assume you want it.
