If it were mine, I'd crop the left hand side to remove the entire 'curvaceous triangle' that contains the blue item, since I feel that places the main subject better in the frame.
I think you may have reduced the brightness of the bright background, but not the two slithers peeking through the petals - I'd tone them down too, since they're now (although very small in area), the brightest things in the whole photo.

I did not see the blue item until after I posted here. I shoot in B&W so I don't see possible colour problems when I shoot. I'll return to shooting in colour.
I did do an overall mask of the background but I missed the slivers. I think this is your fault. Forever reminding me to clean up the edges but never once mentioning the need to clean up the center!
