Testing out a new set of Photogenic studio lights at the photo club studio.

I was shooting model Randi Rouge who is a burlesque dancer and burlesque dance instructor, so I asked her to bring some of her costumes along for the shoot. I had my fog machine along as well. This is the first shot of the series.

I love the background and the lighting. This is possibly one of your best studio shots. Could we see more of the feathers on top of the model's head

Thanks Ole - there are usually a number of us that get together and rent the studio and hire a model for a shoot. I decided to do a solo shoot this evening, so took care of everything including the lighting design myself. It's all part of the development of an approach and style. I plan to do some more solo shoots over the next month or two.

Here's a full body shot in the smokey scene (my attempt to emulate what I would have expected burlesque theatres from the 1940's and 1950's to have looked like; dark and smokey).

My first thoughts were the same as Ole. Either show all of the feathers or crop a little tighter. The second image looks perfect to me.

Thanks for the comment Geoff - I'm not sure if I agree, this is the full uncropped frame that shows almost all of the head piece.



My issue with this crop is that the subject's eyes are a little too low for my liking and I am willing to sacrifice the head dress feathers to move the head / eyes higher up into the frame.

Maybe my imagination is taking hold here but Randi (Post 3) looks like she is walking on air with clouds behind her. Ethereal even. I like it!
