    BIF sort of

I wasn't going to spend much time on these but I was telling a friend about how I saw a goose inside a tree and she didn't believe geese would do that so here it is. If anyone has seen this behavior in geese feel free to share your knowledge. All shot with the 70-300mm lens, no cropping, f/6.3 or so, ISO 400, 1/3200 sec

Very unusual activity probably, because their feet are not equipped for perching or hanging on. Perhaps this goose has been attacked enough that it is seeking sanctuary no matter the energy it took to climb in the tree?

I like the documentation! Well done of course!

    Hi Sandy,

There has been sightings of a coyote so perhaps you are right. Thanks for commenting.

I've heard of/seen photos of them nesting on top of pilings. But never in a hole in a tree. That's pretty crazy. Juanita Livingston wood duck?

    Dan,

That's been my understanding (nests built on elevated pilings) and if there are predators the male and perhaps others in the flock would protect; but if there is an immediate danger to the female as well perhaps the bird improvises. Thanks for commenting.

I have seen birds nest in some unusual places but never have I seen or even thought of a goose in a tree. Very unique.
