Well, never mind, the picture won't upload.
Senior, 2018
There have been security changes to the CiC website that has changed the way that images from TinyPic have to be uploaded.
Dave has updated the "how to post" thread to show the approach that is required now.
HELP THREAD: How can I post images here?
Kris, I think this is great. You have documented an important milestone in an innovative manner. Well done in my opinion.
Cheers Ole
Kris - had you not told us that this was a portrait, I would have guessed it was a shot of the baseball. It's the first thing our eyes land on and has such a significant presence, we really are not drawn towards your son.
It's an unusual approach, but I am not convinced it works all that well. If this is a portrait of your son, then this is the first thing we should see as a viewer; more depth of field so that he is in focus would have been a first step in doing this.
Manfred,
Don't you have really no imagination at all??
It's a reminder on a happening in which the ball, year and "senior" are an important part off. You could have asked what the purpose was of this shot. I did but obviously not clear enough. That senior is the key but I'm still unaware of what it is, being Dutch. Or Canadian.
Maybe Kris could some more info.
George
I have to agree that I would have liked to see a bit more DOF so that the young man might be in a bit better focus.
All-in-all, IMO, this is a good idea for the image that didn't quite make it...
I would like to have seen the word "Senior" spelled out rather than abbreviated and I would like to have seen the year as 2018 rather than '18. I would also like to have seen a more "professional" job of lettering on the ball...
I also am not keen on the signs on each side of the young man. I don't think that they add as much as they distract...
George - I rarely am accused of not having enough imagination. I fully understand the the references that Kris is trying to make; we tend to use different terminology in Canada, but I live close enough to the USA (about a 45 minute drive) to understand the cultural references to the school level and sport of baseball.
If you disagree with my review of the image, I would be more than pleased if you gave a strong counter-argument as to why my analysis is faulty. You have not done this, but rather have made a personal attack. That is not something that I feel is warranted.
It's not clear to me what the goal is. If this is to serve as an introduction to a set of pictures about this year's seniors--so the main point of interest is the class, or the baseball players in the class--then this works. As a portrait of your son, I don't think it does, for the reasons Manfred gave.
First post 5.
His pictures is posted on Flickr.

Nowhere a portrait photo is mentioned.
I don't think it's an unusual approach. And it's not a portrait of his son. It's a reminder of a certain moment. If this is hard to see, than you've totally no imagination.Kris - had you not told us that this was a portrait, I would have guessed it was a shot of the baseball. It's the first thing our eyes land on and has such a significant presence, we really are not drawn towards your son.
In general when viewing a picture you must wonder what the photographer wants to show. Not what you want to see. After that you may work with your checklists. It's an unusual approach, but I am not convinced it works all that well. If this is a portrait of your son, then this is the first thing we should see as a viewer; more depth of field so that he is in focus would have been a first step in doing this.
I still don't know what that moment was. So if somebody could explain it to me?
George
And we are still waiting for the critique that was invited, "If you disagree with my review of the image, I would be more than pleased if you gave a strong counter-argument as to why my analysis is faulty."
A repeat of of the rude, personal attack does not meet the criteria for 'a strong counter argument'.
George - I would suggest that you use a search engine with the term "Senior Picture" and see what comes up. It seems rather obvious to me, having seen it used many times before, but it may not be a term that you are familiar with. By the way, having a senior picture not a Canadian custom.
A Senior Picture is a portrait taken of the subject who has successfully completed their final year of high school. It is not a graduation picture in formal academic robes, but still a formal portrait celebrating the young person's academic achievement.
Just to save everyone the trouble, this is a screen capture of what I got.
These sure look like portraits to me...

Except for the fact that it takes extra time and effort on Manfred's part to answer these attacks, I think it's hilarious to sit back and watch when some "wannabe" takes on one of the well educated, well practiced photo critics from whom we all learn. Mis-placed pride is the culprit, of course, and it would be nice if those wannabe's took the time to understand what the critics are saying, and why. In this one, Manfred is the clear winner!
Thank you, Manfred, for your teachings; they are helpful to all of us.

I second that.Thank you, Manfred, for your teachings; they are helpful to all of us.
