    thessaloniki

Just an impression of this wonderful city.

The view from the window in the hotel. We where lucky. I went up to that church and shot from there to the hotel.

From that church. I think I've done something wrong with the perspective correction.

    Part of the old harbour.

The modiano market. I thought that where lambs. But the local Greek here in Amsterdam said that are goats.
    thessaloniki

    And pigs off course.
    thessaloniki

Labour Day. Even the dogs are walking with it.
    thessaloniki

The old guys. Not really visible on this picture, but the owner of this flag, the left one, had a cap of IKEA on his head. For those who don't know, IKEA is a big Swedish warehouse.
    thessaloniki

Shaving has to be done too.
    thessaloniki

And every day sun, and sea.

    Re: thessaloniki

A very well-made photographic trip, the only thing I have to point out is that it would worth the effort to take some photos from our ancient monuments. They are impressive and I think that it is good enough to sow the ancient proofs (after all this is a city of over 2500 years history).
I get sometimes to think what masterpieces people made 2500 years ago.
Sorry about my "obsessions" , if anyone is planning to visit Thessaloniki I sagest one of his/her visits must be in a museum of the city (let's say the Byzantine one).
    Thank`s George,

    Thanks for posting George.

Living in a country that is relatively young, we have very few historical buildings that are more than a few hundred years old, so getting to some of the older cities around the world that have been around for over 1000 years is always something I find to be of great interest, especially how the modern and ancient areas blend seamlessly.

You've given us a nice glimpse into this well known city.

    Donald,
I watched the link and my attention was drawn to the "jet airliner" group. That are photo's from the airport of Snt. Maarten. I think last year a woman from New Zealand died in the airflow of a airplane. She was blown away against a rock. Look at this youtube movie. https://youtu.be/GqVjD3nBSQg. It's a touristic attraction.

    Manfred,
On the waterside there's not much left from before 1917. A big fire burned everything. Only a few buildings are left. There're a lot of places in the city where they started to dig in the ground for construction works and than find something. And than they stop.

The red part was destroyed during that fire.
    thessaloniki

Sometime I make a picture of the text.
    thessaloniki

And one more for Alexander. A pano from 5 pictures taken from the Theodori Church., picture 2.

I don`t recognize the church's name, besides I don`t know all of them, but if I recall write, the photo must be from a wide place we call the castle (from the castl`s walls that where build in the Bizantine times, if I`m write) in those times, as it was common, they where sarawnding the cities with big walls as you know. Remains of sach a time are still existing and they are in a higher, in terms of altitude, region of my city, obviously nowadays the city extends on both sides of that remains.
Thank you for reminding me my college years.

I think its great and shows the true power of CiC, when visitors and residents can come together here and discuss the merits and locations of a City.

Clearly George would have benefitted even more from Alexander's local knowledge if he had been aware beforehand. But I might have put the camera down and fallen asleep on the sun-bed.

Thats how good the picture is…enticing the viewer to actually be there.
