Watch your background Brian. The elements there are definitely distracting. Also consider the comments made by Dan and Dan on your turkey feather post; similar issue here when you look at the histogram; see what it looks like if you bring the white point to the left / bump the contrast a bit.

But sometimes in the real world, Brian, you are faced with 2 options; accept a less than ideal background or just walk away from the scene. Maybe a slight crop from the top would reduce the distraction.

I was faced with this sort of dilemma recently when attempting to photograph a wild orchid in the woods. I spent quite a bit of time clearing bad background objects, checking the viewfinder and moving more objects, several times, until I thought everything was OK. Then when I saw the result on my computer I realised there was a stick in the middle distance which I had overlooked!

Actually Brian, given the software that you are using, this is probably the only direction you could have taken.

The question remains; other than from a practice / learning standpoint, it any more effort on this image worth your time?

I sure hope so cause I just spent a couple of hours working up a very different shot from this shot. When i wake up tomorrow mif it still looks good I'll post it in a new thread.
