    Evening Grosbeak

I've learned to have my camera sitting out and ready this time of year since we're getting all kinds of activity at the backyard feeder. This one came out of nowhere one afternoon last week. I was lucky enough to just turn my camera on, stand up, shoot and get lucky on a couple of shots. This one being the best pose. These are not easy to get a good shot of. They don't sit still very long. This is an Evening Grosbeak and has been a couple of years since I've seen one at the feeder.

Never seen them that I can recall. The name is well deserved. Nice job being quick enough to make a capture.

There were 3 that showed up all together. They were at the feeder for about 10min max then off they went. Haven't seen them since. They populate mid latitudes of Canada, and all the way to the southern midwest latitudes of the US. I'm in western Oregon and have only seen them sporadically. We also have a Black Headed Grosbeak that is at the feeder almost every day. They are a lot easier to shoot but not as cool looking as the Evening. I have become the laziest photographer ever. Instead of going out in search of the birds, I let them come to me while I sit and drink morning coffee. Sad, really? LOL!
