    Livin the good life

    Rural Washington

Gotta be a tad careful in these scenes, so not always perfect compositions, etc. but aren't necessarily meant to be.

Trish and I used to travel to her Dad's vacation cabin near Mount Baker quite frequently when we lived in Vancouver in the 1970's. The transition from the most desirable real estate in British Columbia to conditions like Appalachia as soon you crossed the border, and got into the hills, was astounding. May not be quite the same 40 years later, although your image seems to support that not much has changed.

Appalachia of the west would be a good term. Honestly at times I am just ... I don't know... saddened or shocked at what some people are living in. Poor choices? Poor economy? Poor support network? Lost in the "Amazon" economy? Hard to say.

    Hi Sharon,

Best to be careful wherever you go; especially if you are carrying a camera. In the rural south of the U.S. a stranger would be quick to be labeled a revenuer. Nice capture of the environ.

Yes, especially in light of the recents state wide drug ring busts. I actually felts safer in East Oakland than in these rural places. Some of the same risks but far more people in East Oakland.
