Caught in the eyes of a tree spider: Selfie x6

Caught in the eyes of a tree spider: Selfie x6

A Tree Spider protecting her nest is as good a studio set up as an outdoor photographer can get. I went out today to try a lower height. Without any intention of taking a selfie (I loath selfies) I managed to catch myself in six of the Tree Spiders eyes.

    ISO 100 ~ Shutter Speed 3.2s ~ F/14 ~ Natural Light

Incredible JBW! I've never seen a spider macro so detailed! What setup/lens were you using?
    Many thanks.

I'm a bit of a minimalist so really not much of a setup. This shot was taken with a Sony Alpha a68 connected to a sturdy tripod and a Tamron 90mm 272E lens. Natural light. Plus a wireless shutter release. Post processing was done entirely in Capture 1 v11.1.1.

    Glad you like the shot.

That is quite amazing to us who have never thought about macro photography.

I just went out with a measuring tape. The part within the shot is slightly less than 1/2 inch.

It's about as close as I can go with the gear I've got. In September I'll be getting a focus rail which will get me just that little bit closer.

It's amazing / awesome for me too. First because from when I first started shooting about 5 years ago I have been learning the needed skills to get this type of detail. But I was, even at my best a minute late and a ha'penny short. The turning point was when my a58 busted. The a68 is just a much better camera for my type of shooting.

Secondly because I feel like I'm looking into the eyes of the sacred with a shot like this.

It's very kind of you to grant Sony credit for the image. However, it's the person behind the camera that makes the image.

But I couldn't have got that image with either the Fujifilm or the Sony a58.I will however agree that it's a team effort. We need to know how to use the tool but we also have to have the tool.

Hi Brian - Amazing detail. I've looked at this photo several times always noting something new. This morning I realized the greenish coloring reminds me of moss. The other thing that occurred to me is that this reminds me of the "Monster Book" Hagrid assigned his students. Made me chuckle!

I agree, I think Hagrid would like this lady. Their coloring does help to hide them.

This is a spectacular macro. When I got interested in macrophotography I got a focusing rail. I think you will find it really helps get you the images you want.

It is one of my better efforts. I am hoping to get a Velbon Super Mag Slider Macro Rail in September.

Brian, you're beginning to pop out amazing shots on a regular basis. This is definitely one of them. The POV and the details revealed in this image is really excellent. Well done.

Things are coming together and the beginning of consistency is a good sign. Now if I an get my studio work up to snuff.
