Velvet
Young whitetail buck in velvet. Taken in our front yard with the 70D+EF 400mm f/5.6L. I don't normally use JPEGs, but as the camera is new to me, I thought I'd try some, dialing in -2/3rds stop from the "evaluative" meter reading, which has worked in other cameras. Here's my favorite of the resulting lot:

Re: Velvet
Well done, Tom, great detail in this capture. It would be good if you could tone down the bright flash in the b/g.

Re: Velvet
This is the type of shooting animals that I approve of. Excellent detail. But I gotta agree about the bright strip.

Re: Velvet
Thanks. The bright strip is afternoon sunlight shining through the spaces between fence palings. I tried to work the buck (and his less-antler-endowed brother) away from the fence, which was ruining all the shots. I got a number of shots of the two (and their mother), and some of them don't have the problem. Anyhow, I'll work on this one and the others and post again later.

Re: Velvet
OK, I fiddled around some more and wound up using the healing brush in Photoshop with zero hardness. I picked the color next to the white strip on the frame and replaced the white with that. It took a while, but I don't think it is too bad:

Re: Velvet
Your work turned out well. I looked at your B/W as well and like this one better.
