Nice; did you focus on the posts in front?
Thanks Nandakumar, I couldn't remember, but looking at the image full size, I did. Seem to remember that I was trying something different. My aperture was 3.0, far too big for normal landscape.
Whatever you did, it seems to have worked well enough, Jim. I like this composition and the image is acceptably sharp throughout I think.
Many thanks for the feedback, Greg. Are you anywhere near Melbourne?
It looks like Docklands to me Jim. That's the Bolte Bridge in the background.
Nice composition.
Dave
Nice photo.

I found it on maps.google https://www.google.com/maps/place/Ce...!4d144.9439338
Do you know where those posts are used for?
George
Nice shot.
Dave - I suspect you are 100% correct. These are the creosote treated wooden piles that were driven into the harbour subsoil to support old docks.
This shot shows the piles from the old railway coal docks at Prescott, Canada. The docks were abandoned and not stripped down as far and protected as in your shot, so some of the decking and other supports are still visible. Things look somewhat similar.
The word dock has different meanings. It can be used for a separated but still open part of the water,or for a box where ships where sailed in and that could be closed after which you could empty that box by pumping out the water. There're still more meanings of that word.
This photo is from the Victoria Dock,a peace of open water with a small entrance. Those posts carried the quay where the ships where docked at. When not being used anymore parts of that quay where demolished leaving the foundation vissible as something of historic value. All mine guess
Have a look at this site. It shows an interactive picture of Melbourne including this place http://1945.melbourne/
Sometime this link works, sometime not. Here's the website https://www.theage.com.au/national/v...26-13pd5v.html
All house in Amsterdam are builded on posts. Last week my foundation floor was broken open for an inspection of those posts. They had to dig a hole of over 2 meters deep, under the groundwater level. Those posts are about 350 years old. They need some aid .

Jim's shot would have been taken from the eastern end of what was the old Victoria Dock, looking west. You can see the old wharf pylons in the attached image grab from Google Earth. They are about midway across the image to the left of the AFL football stadium. The main port area for Melbourne is now to the west of this area and this area has been undergoing major re-development for a number of years now.
Dave
In your image east means below that shopping centre on the old quay. You can see the end of that quay in his picture, looking through the post underneath of it.
Question answerd, mystery solved.
By the way, could you open that link I gave you? It's a tricky one if you open it for the second time.
George
I had no trouble opening it a number of times. It’s very well done. Thks for posting.
Dave
Thanks, George and Dave, I will now go and change my keywords in Lightroom with the correct location.
